Psalm 59

1. A poem written by David (about when Saul commanded David’s house to be guarded to kill David). For the permanent collection - do not destroy.

Rescue and safely protect me from those who hate me, my Mighty God. 2 Snatch me away from crooked and fraudulent mischief makers and set me free from those trying to kill me. 3 Cruel, harsh people set traps to ambush me, (but it isn’t because I rebelled against You or missed Your plan for me, Lord). 4 – 5 They rush upon me in a hostile way, so be extra alert and care about me, Supreme God – You who are in charge of your earth family. Attentively watch what everyone is doing but don’t show favor to those who treacherously cause trouble and refuse to agree with You.

6 – 7 Like a pack of dogs prowling around at night, they growl and are boisterously fierce. Their words, like garbage, gush out sharp and acrid because they think “who cares?”.

8 But You, Supreme Lord, will not only annul their words into ridiculous jokes, but all who don’t respect and love You will end up in a stammering condition.

9 I will celebrate how strong and powerful You are, my Judge, Ruler and secure Refuge. 10 You eagerly anticipate what I need and let me see Your responses to my oppressors.

11 – 12 Don’t kill them, though, lest my family forgets.

Excellent Lord (You who have protected us) cause them, as vagabonds, to wander as they sink down under their burden of guilt of proud attitudes and lying, poisonous words which broke Your covenant. 13 Let those intense emotions exhaust them, until they learn by experience that the Almighty God is still in authority in the whole world.

14 – 15 O.K. Let them loudly growl and noisily complain, like a pack of dogs prowling around at night as they wander outside the protected place – grumbling because they aren’t satisfied.

16 But I will celebrate Your conquering boldness with singing. Yes, I will shout with rejoicing in the morning about Your goodness and faithfulness. You have been my stronghold and way of escape when my enemies were after me. 17 I make joyful music to You, God, for You are my benevolent, Love Power.

Psalm 58

1. For the permanent collection (do not destroy). A special poem written by David.

Have you come to right conclusions in your mind? Are your criticisms and condemnations valid? 2 In reality your heart emotions are so violently perverted that your actions toward others become oppressively cruel. 3-5 This hostility, which is caused by the lies you believe, passes on as an inheritance to your children. Then they also believe and speak burning, acid, lie based words. Neither will they listen to or accept what anyone else says no matter how true it might be.

6-7 Lord, You are the
only One who can break through their defensive cover of lies, reach them, wash away the contempt and enable the lies to be exposed, which will ultimately destroy those errors.

8 Let every lie melt away as slime dries up in sunlight. Let all falsehoods be buried as a baby who died at birth.

9 God will intensely and rapidly sweep away all lies - both new and old - even before you might realize what is happening.

10 Those who choose the right will leap for joy as they experience cleansing from all the lies which had previously caused hostility and separation between them and God.

11 Even hypocrites will admit: "Yes, God rewards those who agree with Him." God vindicates Himself right here on this earth.

Psalm 57

1. For the permanent music collection (do not destroy). Written by David when he was hiding in a cave while fleeing from Saul.

Show pity, and treat me with favor, O Mighty God. I am confident You will protect me until these present calamities become history.

2 I call to You, O True God, who is exalted in heaven - as well as my Hero who completely takes care of me. 3 You will reach out to free me
by Your zeal, love and truth from the taunts of this man who is attempting to trample me down and kill me.

4 Roaring and yelling surround me. People spew out burning, acrid words. Seige is laid on me with cutting, blasphemous language.

5 O Mighty God, Your splendor, reputation and honor be exalted above everything visible.

6 Their determined plans to trap me as I move from place to place depress me and cause me to feel worthless and empty. Yet, in those very plots they laid for me they themselves have been entrapped.

7-9 I am determined to honor the True God through song and instruments. I will act triumphantly, including singing joyful music in the mornings. I will agree with You, God, and reverently submit to Your will when I am with my family - those who love You - as well as when I am with those not related to or in agreement with me.

10-11 Your benevolent favor and great love fills the whole earth and reaches as high as the visible heavens. You are exalted above everything, O God. Let who You really are and what You are really like be fully revealed to everyone, everywhere.
