Psalm 22

1. For the director of music. To the tune of “The Doe of Dawn.” A poem put to music, written by David.
Questions asked
My God, my Almighty God, have You let go of me? Quit helping me? Quit listening to my deep cries of distress?
2. O, the One I worship as Supreme, I urgently address You by Your Name all day long. Are you paying any attention? - Even during the night season I am not quiet.
Looking at evidence related to the questions
3. Yet You, sacred and clean, unite with and dwell in the hymns and celebrations where You prevail.
4. Our fathers were bold in You. They had such confidence in you that You carried them away safely.
5. They passionately cried unto You and You slipped them away to safely: They hastened to you in hope and were not disappointed or ashamed.
6. But I - bloody, not treated like a human being - am defamed and disgraced by those milling around me.
7. Those who see me deride, making fun of me as if I was a foreigner. They stare, make strange sounds and wag their heads as they jeeringly say,
8. 'He committed himself to God for safety. Let God set him free, since He was pleased with him.'
9. God, You enabled me to be born and You gave me confidence even while I was still nursing my mother.
10. I was entirely dependent upon You from birth - even from conception.
11. Don't leave me now: my rival opponents are crowding around and I have no protection.
12. Myriads of them, breaking forth in wild strength, revolve around me to violate and frustrate me; the chiefest and most valiant ones enclose around me and besiege me.
13. They opened their mouths toward me like blood thirsty, roaring, violent lions.
14. I am spilled like urine; my body is pulled out of shape; my heart feels like hot wax melted into my abdomen.
15. I am confused, ashamed, withering up to die - yet with me not speaking a word, as you reduce me to dust.
16. Those cooperating with my arch rival surround me; those worthless spoilers beat me up and cut me down, violently piercing my hands and my feet.
17. Since I am naked all my bones are visible. Those standing around stare at me.
18. They separate my clothes among them and cast lots for my outer garment.
After looking at evidence, God has not forsaken and an appeal to not change
19. Don't leave me, O Self-Existent One. Quickly surround me, O my Protection.
20. Save me from becoming disconnected from You. Protect my unity with you from false leaders.
21. Keep me from being violently blown away. You have responded to me with your conspicuous power.
Final answers and conclusions
22. I will recount and celebrate your character (what you are really like) with my family, and even in the middle of the multitude I will boast of You.
Recommendations for others
23. You who reverently submit to the Creator God, boast of Him. All of you who were born into the family honor Him. Take time with Him, everyone who is an offspring of those who have prevailed with the Almighty,
24. He has not put down or loathed those who are depressed; neither has He turned away from those who cried to be set free, but rather responded intelligently.
Conclusions
25. I will boast of You in church: I will fulfill my promises to God before those that honor and revere Him.
26. Those who are busy being humble and gentle will become satisfied; those who follow and worship Him will boast about the Self-Existent One - their inner life will be continually revived.
27-28. Everyone in this world will again acknowledge the Creator God: all the tribes on this earth will prostrate flat in His presence, for the Creator's kingdom rules everywhere.
29. Those who reproduced on earth will bow down in worship. All who have died will once again bow before the Self-Existent One. No one can keep his own soul alive.
30. A special posterity will work for Him; it will be inscribed to the Sovereign Lord for a dwelling:
31. They will go out and explain to others His justice, His virtue and what He has done.
